About the Foundation

The Foundation for Education, a non-profit organization, exists to serve as the fund raising and advocacy entity for the Somers Point Public School District.

The group is comprised entirely of volunteer board members and committees with no paid employees. The Foundation supports annual projects and new educational ventures while raising awareness for the schools through special events and a strong community presence. As a way to achieve these goals, the Foundation plans a variety of successful, annual events which not only raise funds for the school district but have become popular and anticipated community activities that engage and enrich the public. Events include an annual Golf Tournament which directly funds a sixth grade trip to Stokes State Forest in Northern New Jersey. This trip provides students an outdoor experience where they learn a range of lessons from survival skills to team building.

Other events include the Trail of Two Cities 5k Run (from Ocean City to Kennedy Park in Somers Point over the Route 52 Bridge) and the Dinner Dance and Silent Auction where outstanding individuals in the fields of Education, Community Awareness and Healthcare are awarded. All proceeds from events and initiatives such as these directly fund the school district and its students. Funding ventures include classroom improvements, field trips, innovative concepts and discretionary project based on teacher needs.
